Dear Parents,

PARENTS’ CONSULTATIONS: We believe meeting with parents to share progress in learning in mind, body and spirit is very important. We are very happy that almost all parents think so too!

There is a Parents’ Evening from 6 p.m. on March 10th evening and once again during the school day. We encourage parents of older children especially to arrange a daytime appointment if possible so that your child can share and understand the next steps to learning with you present. Please return the slip below as soon as possible. Thank you.

MATHS – ‘How we do sums’ meetings have begun. We had some parents for the KS1 meeting this week and they found the meeting very helpful and we will repeat this for other KS1 parents in the near future. Y3/4 meeting is in the Parish Centre first thing on Monday (9a.m.), Y5/6 is on Wednesday morning and Foundation Stage is on Thursday morning at 9 a.m.. Please come if you can.

PLAY & PRAY THIS SATURDAY EVENING: This Saturday evening Fr Tom will say Mass at 6.30 at English Martyrs church - just as we used to before we became one new parish.

Immediately after Mass (from about 7.30) there will be family fun in the Parish Centre with a quiz. The bar will be open.

We hope lots of families will join us. It will be a real opportunity to help keep strong our community here at English Martyrs.

Special thanks to Fr Tom and to those who have taken the trouble to organise this.

GOOD MANNERS: Our ‘Statement to live by’ this week has been ‘I try to use words that make the world a better place’ (please, thank you, etc.). We give care & courtesy stickers to the children each Friday in assembly to encourage good manners. I believe we can be proud of the good manners of almost all our children almost all the time but it needs working on constantly. Thank you for all you do to teach your children good manners – please continue to work hard at it to build up expectations within your own home and this community. The world may be less courteous but together we can help to make it a better place.

LENTEN CHARITIES : Our Lenten charities will be CAFOD (supporting people in developing nations) and Catholic Care (supporting families within this and other local communities). You will be hearing about bun sales and such. Please help your child to understand the need to care for others and support these activities if you are able.

May God bless us all and especially our dear children.

Bernard Martin - Headteacher
