Welcome to Year 1
My name is Mrs Broadbent and I’ve been a class teacher for 10 years. I’ve worked in BKCAT schools since moving to Yorkshire 7 years ago. I live at home with my husband and 1 year old daughter Charlotte. Maths is my favourite subject but I love being able to teach a variety of subjects in school. I will be in Year 1 on Monday and Tuesday and then on Wednesday’s I can be found in Year 6. I share the teaching responsibility with Mrs Grover and we have worked together previously at another BKCAT school.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my family. We love the outdoors and can be found spending our weekends camping, walking or enjoying grounds at Lotherton Hall. I’m also a keen football fan and long-time supporter of Arsenal FC.
This term the children will be immersing themselves into the new routines and expectations of Year 1. Continuous Provision (the freedom to play and explore) will still form a large part of the curriculum as the children transition from Reception into Year 1. Currently the children are consolidating the skills they mastered in Reception including counting, sorting and ordering numbers. They will continue to practise their handwriting skills, with particular focus on using the cursive letter formation (the swoosh at the beginning of each letter). In addition to this, they will be learning consonant blends in phonics (bl, sm, fl, cr, etc.) This is the fourth phase of the Letters and Sounds programme. In Science, the children will be exploring animals and their natural habitats. Our current key text is Bog Baby which will form the basis for most of the Literacy lessons.
