Welcome to Year 1
Mrs Grover and Mrs Broadbent are our Year 1 teachers.
Mrs Broadbent works on a Monday and Tuesday. Mrs Grover works on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
In Year 1 we have been reading 'Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis and have been learning all about animals and mini beasts and their habitats. As part of this topic we went on an exciting mini beast hunt around our school grounds to see what mini beasts we could find that could potentially be friends with Bog Baby.
In class we have also been learning all about number and have been engaging in lots of practical activities.
This half term, we are very excited to study our new class text 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes which links to our topic on old and new toys. It is sure to be a fun and engaging topic for all children, especially as we get close to Christmas time!
Special days to note:
PE: Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has an indoor and outdoor kit (black/navy tracksuit and outdoor trainers) in school every week.
Homework: Children will be given different activities to complete over the half term. These link to our learning on class. Children must complete 5 activities of their choice. Homework books need to be brought back to school during the last week of term. As well as daily reading practice, children need to practice their times tables and counting as often as possible.
Spelling: Children will receive new spellings every Friday and will be tested the following Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school. Toys from home are not to be brought into school.
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to sharing your child’s learning journey with you throughout this year.
